Norðurljós
2025
The documentary project "Norðurljós" explores the quest for the northern lights in Iceland through a sibling relationship.
This journey symbolizes both a physical goal (observing the auroras) and a more intimate quest to understand sibling dynamics.
The film focuses on the complexity of brotherly relationships, between love, tension, mutual support, and competition. The narrator aims to capture this relationship throughout the trip, with a human and authentic angle, based on the proximity and intimacy of the film. The goal is to show how a common quest, like the auroras, can reveal these dynamics. The introspection revolves around family ties, past cohabitation, and the evolution of the relationship between two brothers who have become young adults.
The project highlights the idea that this quest, both external (physical journey) and internal (emotional exploration), creates shared memories that strengthen the bond between brothers.
Filming in Iceland presented technical challenges:
The weather conditions were extreme, and the days were short.
I feared that the batteries for my camera and microphone wouldn’t last in the freezing cold.
Fortunately, I had prepared well and brought enough batteries to last a full day of adventure without needing to recharge my equipment.
I am satisfied with the final result due to its authenticity and intimacy. If I had to do it again, I would try to film more interactions and dialogues to further develop the characters and their relationships.
