Un Objet De Rêve

2023

This fictitious personal project was done in a school context. The brief for this project was to create a packshot of an object of our choice, with several technical constraints, including 12 moving shots and a duration of about 25 seconds.

I set out to find an intriguing and charismatic object at home to showcase. That's when I came across an old Canon auto-zoom 1014 camera from 1973. I decided to enhance this outdated technology by using modern technical methods to create a striking contrast.

Knowing that I had very limited time in the studio for shooting, I carefully prepared the project by conducting lighting tests and creating a storyboard.

Upon arrival, I had a clear vision of what I wanted to achieve, but I quickly encountered difficulties while working alone. Setting up the equipment, managing moving lights, framing shots, and handling the object required complex coordination. Moreover, I chose to use equipment I had never used before, such as a dolly. Fortunately, thanks to pre-production, I managed to finish on time and quickly moved on to editing.

During editing, I had to speed up the video, which was still too long to meet the required 25-second duration. I selected the most interesting shots and accelerated certain takes. I added a film effect to simulate a projection.

For the sound design, I combined nostalgic Super 8 sounds to enhance the projection effect, with music inspired by the contrast between the past and the present.

This project taught me the importance of collaboration and how much it eases tasks. Working as a team would have likely made the process smoother and helped better manage the technical challenges I faced.
